WaveX Partners with Quad9 to Strengthen Kenya’s Internet Security and Resilience

WaveX, a leading ICT infrastructure provider in Africa, has joined forces with global DNS security leader Quad9 to bolster Internet resilience, speed, and safety across Kenya. As the official infrastructure sponsor for Quad9 in the region, WaveX is now hosting DNS nodes in Nairobi and Mombasa, bringing critical cybersecurity infrastructure closer to home.
“We believe DNS isn’t just about connectivity — it’s about trust and protection,” said Cyrus Mbitao, CTO at WaveX. “Our partnership with Quad9 empowers Kenya with locally hosted infrastructure that supports a secure and sovereign digital future.”
This collaboration delivers immediate benefits to Internet users and service providers throughout Kenya, including:
-
Faster and more reliable DNS resolution thanks to Quad9’s global anycast network
-
Stronger local network redundancy, enhancing uptime and Internet resilience
-
Greater data sovereignty by reducing dependence on external DNS traffic
Quad9 distinguishes itself by providing robust protection against malware, phishing, and other online threats—without collecting or monetizing user data. Its DNS service blocks access to known malicious domains in real-time, acting as a critical first line of defense for Internet users.
"At Quad9, our mission is to provide secure and private DNS services to users worldwide,” says Simon Forster, General Manager of Quad9. “Partnering with WaveX to host our DNS nodes in Nairobi and Mombasa marks a significant step in enhancing Internet resilience and privacy in Kenya. This collaboration ensures that users benefit from faster, more reliable DNS responses while maintaining the highest standards of data protection and privacy."
WaveX has now deployed Quad9 DNS across all Kenyan Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), including KIXP, LINX and ASTEROID, ensuring maximum reach and performance nationwide.
This effort aligns with WaveX’s broader mission to support open, secure, and community-powered Internet infrastructure throughout Africa.
